A Sister's Love

Image
Last Friday we found out that our next baby is a girl. There was a moment of, "OK fine, it’s not a boy. We're not going have that perfect little nuclear family", but it was quickly replaced by, "Sweet all our baby stuff is girlie anyways". Wow sisters. Is there anything more beautiful in life than the relationship between two sisters? I have a sister. My mom is one of  6 sisters, and now my daughter will have a sister. I love my sister. She will never  understand how much I love her. She rolls her eyes at me most of the time, because she thinks I’m mean to her, but really it’s tough love. I’m the older one, so I have an innate duty to take care of her, no matter what. I’m tough on her because she deserves to have her shit together, and I’m the only one that can force that on her. At the end of the day, she still has to love me. My mom, and Auntie Chanthon have a similar relationship, though I'd say my mom, the younger sister is the mean one. Or maybe...

An Ombre for Girls with Black Hair

Image
I've had the same long black hair for at least 3 years now. Long hair is actually really easy. I can wear it in a pony tail for casual days. I can make it curly for dressy events, and I have straighten it for drinks with the girls. But it was time for a change. I decided to add colour in the form of an ombre. My sister just graduated from hair school so did some of her magic. Natural black waves before the colour. New cut and colour. Even though my sister told me I was asking for copper tones, and wanted to make sure that's what I really wanted I said yes to the copper tones. It wasn't what I really want. She added brown to tone down the copper. This is what I wanted :)

Nanny, Where Have You Been All My Life

Everything about childcare is scary; trying to get information on it, registering for it in time, choosing the right option, and paying for it. As soon as Eloise was born, veteran moms were asking me if I had looked into childcare yet. My immediate response was, "Uh... no..." I panicked for a few months, as I researched childcare in my city. Note, Eloise wasn't even 3 months old at this point. Then one day, I was talking to my sister, Nika . She wanted a huge change in her life. I joked that she should just move in with us, and be our nanny, after all , she's great with kids. She paused, and said "Yes." I go back to work February 1st, but Nika started two weeks ago so she can learn on the job, while I'm still around. That means Nika is feeding, bathing, and entertaining Eloise, while I keep myself busy doing stuff like organizing my closet, cleaning the bathroom, and writing my blog. And since this is my birthday week, on top of the regular...

My Sister Nika

Image
Spence is my husband. He's over a decade older than Nika. She likes urban guys. Her current beau is an aspiring rapper from Seattle. She loves Spence but thinks he is old, and kind of a geek. While Spence and I were still just dating, I asked Nika if I needed her to be, would she ever consider being a surrogate for me. She shrieked, "Gross, does that mean I have to fuck Spence?!"
